( Disclaimer!—- (Just in case) This blog post is not meant for harm or to speak negatively against the network marketing industry or those involved. 💕
This is me passionately speaking about my journey, because I feel led to do so. )
I’ve been in the network marketing / direct sale industry for 5 years, with two different companies along the way. I’ve had an incredible journey of hard times and awesome moments throughout. I DO think it’s a wonderful way to make extra income. I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve met new friends along the way who are now life-long friends! Yay!! All part of God’s plan obviously.
Within my years in the industry I’ve been fed a few different lines on what success looks like. I’m sure you’ve heard a few of them too. “Dream big and hustle hard!”, “work while your family sleeps”, and “sacrifice time with your family now so you don’t have to later.” While none of that is too terrible, it can be unhealthy and damage relationships. Those phrases are also insinuating that success looks one way for all across the board. It doesn’t. As I’ve started walking closer with God, I’ve learned his plan for me doesn’t look like that.
P.S. – If you have 5 kids and you work while they sleep, you get no sleep! Haha just a word of warning. LOL.
I started to focus less on the bigger or next best car, the big “we built it ourself” home, and cut out a lot of fancy coffee dates. (Again, not saying at all that you’re terrible if you enjoy those things) Instead I prayed a lot. I mean, ALOT and started doing coffee dates in my own, already spacious home with family and friends. It saves money, it’s cozy and relational! Winning!
Anywhoo, I want y’all to understand I’m not against dreaming big. There’s nothing wrong with bigger dreams, but it’s important to let God lead and not miss the moments in between on the way to bigger things. Our kids are 11,10,8,8 and 3. I was missing those moments in between!!
For me now, dreaming big looks like working at Alpha Christian Children’s Home by day. (I love this place and you should totally google it.. check it out!!) It’s being trusting and being JOYful with my husband as the head of household, including being the “bread winner.” Even though technically, he doesn’t bake bread, I do. 😉 (Expect plenty of lame jokes from me because I’ll laugh at myself every single time. )
It’s reading good a few more books to Layne before bed. It’s playing a round of H.O.R.S.E in the driveway with our big kids, before the wind takes out the basketball goal, right on top of my car! Haha. Yep, lesson learned. Don’t park near the goal when it’s windy! So, in Kansas, that’s never park there. Haha. It’s car rides singing songs about the Lord.
Doesn’t that all sound like the GOOD life!? It is! God can do so many BIG things with our “small” dreams, if we focus on him and what’s truly important.
Obedience is hard and is a daily hard choice for a sinner like me, and you.
But, there are blessings in that!
Here are just a few of ours!
• Farm life with a garden and animals to provide nutritious food and drinks. (YAY goats milk!)
* A paid off car that’s sound and dependable.
* A house with plenty of room for our family of 7, plus entertaining family and friends. (Deepening relationships!!)
* A beautiful backroads drive to my job every weekday morning
* More focus on people and less on having all the things
* We aren’t rich in the way of money but we have come a long way and are able to give more financially in sponsorship with Compassion, pay off debt and helping family when we can.
I mean, we are rich in this “dream small”, simple living when you think about it!
I would encourage you to seek God and ask him what all this looks like for you!
I’m sure it looks GOOD!
