This specific post was actually inspired by my niece! She just turned six years old today! Happy birthday shout -out from the blog Bit! 💕
We had so much fun at her birthday party with cupcakes, playing hide and seek and a couple of meltdowns along the way because what else does a princess do?! We ALL have meltdowns sometimes. And, at 3 years old, she dubbed herself a queen. 👑 LOL perfect! She is indeed and that’s something to CELEBRATE! She pranced around with her fan and pink eyeshadow like she didn’t have care in the world! So in honor of how she inspires me, I want to talk about celebration over comparison
Comparison is a yucky thing that I’ve struggled with. I’ve been the girl with the best abs, the perfectly put together outfit, the nice car..the perfect FB highlight reel.. but I wasn’t ever happy. I was trying to live up to a standard of the women I saw. I thought if I was more like them that I’d be happier or prettier or more attractive. I did that for YEARS y’all. I’m talkin’ like most of my life. It was exhausting and depressing. I’m going to be 30 this year and it’s only been in the last year or two that I’ve started to intentionally step out of that comparison world.
You see, it’s so easy in this world of photoshop and highlight reels to see a beautiful woman and think that she is prettier than us. To see a woman in her heels and fancy 2018 Malibu and think, “why don’t I have that” or even “why can’t I have that?” (It could be a rental car! Haha) To look at a mom who appears to have it all together and measure our mommin to hers. (FYI, not a ONE mama has it all together. 😉 So, Stop that.
We need to step back, find the JOY in our own journey, realize our worth, love ourselves and look to God for what He already has planned for us. Then, walk out being US like a dang boss!♥️ (dahhhh, coffee is kicking it!) Haha
Trust me, I KNOW some days are easier than others and that’s why we should be celebrating not comparing!
Celebrating our own wins for sure! But also, we read “rejoice with those who rejoice” in Romans 12:15. Which means, celebrating other women too! If you see another woman killin it, give her a high five or a word of praise. If she’s fabulous in sweats and a T, tell her that! When we learned to celebrate ourselves and celebrate others, we naturally stop focusing on the comparison and start celebrating! We start to feel JOY. It’s like the Grinch as his heart to swell. He’s like, what’s this feeling I’m feeling!? Haha it’s JOY friend! Then this whole transformation happens. Imagine what the world be like if the transformation was wide-spread across the nation?! Women encouraging women. Women truly loving themselves!? That’s a heck of a picture to paint yeah!?
Let’s get to what the most important part is: what the Bible tells us about comparison. Jesus has some strong FACTS on this one! We are all daughters of the king. So what does that make us? Royalty. Princesses. Heirs to the grand throne. So, why on earth would be play the comparison game!? Our minds need to be not of this world but KINGDOM minded.
So let’s set up some tools to go to when we start to forget who we are:
2 Corinthians 10:12 says:
“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.” — we need to arm ourselves with the truth God speaks about us. Seek his wisdom in who he says we are.
Galatians 1:10 says:
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” — BOOM! <—this! I serve one master and it’s not the idol of comparison! 🙌🏻
Matthew 7:2 says:
“For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” —we will be judged in the same way we judge!
2 Corinthians 13:5 says:
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” <—- Christ In us makes us in Him! In his likeness. Incomparable!
There is SO much scripture truth on this subject so I picked out some that resonate with me, that I pray you grow to love too!
God thinks YOU are worthy and beautiful the way HE created you! If indeed we are made in his image, then there is NOTHING to COMPARE that too!
