I was having a conversation with a sweet family member of mine recently and she was struggling with feeling like she was ENOUGH or doing enough. She was discouraged and tired. I’ve been there and felt that too. It’s hard to be a mama and wife in today’s culture. It’s hard to run a Christ-centered household with all the world telling us how we should be. Often times we feel like we aren’t doing enough or being made to feel like we aren’t doing enough. Sometimes that feeling can intentionally or unintentionally come from our spouses. The dishes are like a revolving door of mess, the trash will always need taken out an hour after you empty it and somehow your husband’s clothes will always land just a few inches away from the basket.
I’ll be honest, that one drives me bonkers. Somehow though, through the exhaustion, it all gets done. Then, you get up the next day and you do it all again mama. Maybe you work out of the home, maybe you don’t. Either way, I’ve been in both situations and I found it hard still to feel like I was doing enough. Here’s what I’ll say to you and I pray you’ll hear my heart.
YOU DONT HAVE TO BE ENOUGH. In fact, you aren’t enough. I’m not enough. We CANNOT be enough. I know you’re probably like, whoa Brit….this is supposed to be encouraging….
It is if you really soak in what I’m about to say.
We were not created do it all. We were never created to be enough. If we were enough and could do it all, we would have no need for Christ.
Christ is sufficient for us! ( 2 Corinthians 12:9)
—- and if Christ keeps giving us his power, and I will gladly brag about how weak I am. ♥️
When we start to feel like we are tired or worn… Colossians 3:23-24 gives us great encouragement that Christ is our reward.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. That’s purpose!!
John 16:33, in Him we have peace. In this world will have trouble but he has overcome the world.
Let me say that again, louder for those in the back…
HE HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD!
He is enough. We don’t have to be. We can’t be. We weren’t created to be and we have to quit telling each other that we are. I know it’s said from a place of good intentions but in the end, when we are exhausted because we aren’t enough….it ceases to be encouraging.
And when we realize we indeed aren’t enough and we are tired, you know what Jesus says?
“Come to me all who are weary and heavily burdened and I will give you rest.”
My prayer for you and for me is that when we are tempted to be the hero or fall slave to the father of lies (Satan) …that instead we will call on the One who is indeed ENOUGH.
Being held by Him and led by Him is the most peaceful “place” my hearts ever been and I want that for you too.
