As I am sitting here watching our children play in the pool, I noticed that the man who leases our land for his bulls is coming up the road. As he approaches I noticed how attentive the bulls are to him. When he gets near to them, they stop what they are doing and start following him. And in that very moment Jesus painted a most beautiful picture for me!! Those bulls stopped what they were doing and started to follow their master because that is just what they are supposed to do. They know that’s how they get taken care of. That’s how they are fed, watered and nurtured. What would it be like for us as Christians to stop what we are doing and just follow Jesus because he’s here and that’s what we are supposed to do?
According to His Holy Word when we stop at we are doing to follow Jesus we get taken care of too!
Lets look at some verses that reinforce this truth and can encourage us to lay down our own plans and follow the Lord!
Colossians 3:23-24 says, “ whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” —- an inheritance from Christ to be a co-heir in heaven with him! I don’t know about you, but I would say dancing and praising on streets paved of gold, surrounded by spirit of the Lord is a pretty great reward for following God!
Matthew 25:21 says, “ well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your master happiness!“ — to share in the true JOY of the Lord sounds like my heart flying! Still not excited about following God?!
Deuteronomy 5:33 says, “ walk in obedience to all the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you possess.” — ok, I love Star Trek as much as the next trekky BUT this is the best version of live long and prosper that I’ve ever known!
Revelation 3:11 says, “ I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” —- hello! If that doesn’t yell eternity with Christ then I don’t know what does! We can follow Christ and hold onto him for eternity with Him in Heaven or we can walk with the world for eternity in Hell. I’m not willing to risk my eternity in Heaven to follow the ways of the world.
